Does it just come naturally?

Or do Americans try and piss everyone else off on purpose??

As I suspected, I've been flooded with desperate American soldiers at the school this week, the best was the group of black guys who came in from the freezing rain and said in such a desperate tone "Please tell us you know where McDonalds is!?" And to be fair, most of them have been polite and grateful for my help, but tonight a group of massive white guys came in, (obviously before reading the huge sign that says "ENGLISH SCHOOL") and asked, "You speak English??" After saying I did, they asked where they could get sushi, so I start drawing them a map and giving them directions, when one of them goes "That's so Australian, you just said 3 vowels in one word!" (The word was 'go')

Ummm, people who know me, yes, please take the piss out of my accent, I will gladly accept this ribbing and probably agree with it. Fucking random American soldier looking for my help? Keep your big mouth shut buddy! I'm not actually that pissed off, they were probably nice guys, but fuck, bit cheeky if you ask me.

Maybe I'm on edge after a dog-fucker incident that has resulted in me refusing to ask her to go pick up Ash from kindy ever again. Will have to write that one up, I totally fucking hate the in-laws at the minute. Must stop bitching and teach.

  2. Nah, Americans must set off to annoy everyone. Isn't it in their Constitution? Third amendment or something? ;P
And, I agree with GW, skip class and blog. I need something to entertain me!

    2. Yes, Illahee, I, too, as an American, live only to piss off everyone, my existence on this earth serves no other purpose (and obviously I had a choice as to where I would be born, because if I were smarter and not set on pissing off the rest of the world I would've had the good sense to be born in another country). One of the best ways to piss off non-stupid people is to automatically stereotype according to nationality and not take into account class and gender and education and personality and so much more. Poor uneducated rural white boys who join the military because that's the only good job available and they have no other skills ... oh, never mind. Who wants to complicate things with thinking -- I'm American -- what am I thinking?

  3. Ha ha ha. That's funny. I actually just tried to say 'no' with three vowels in it and I sounded really Aussie.

I'm an American and everyone likes me. I don't make anyone feel uncomfortable ever. Please accept my apologies for their behavior.

    I'm mortified.

  8. Ah well, don't tar us all with the same brush. There are jerky people in every country. He probably thought he was being funny. I'm rolling my eyes at the thought of being in Japan and trying to find a McDonald's - I don't even eat that here at home! PS Don't remember if I've commented before but my daughter spent a term at your uni - absolutely loved Australia. I think she majored in surfing & doing her homework on the beach. I should have gone to visit while she was there but at the time didn't have the money, but I'll get there someday.

  9. Theresa- your stereotyping point is duely noted. I love getting a reaction and do apologize for any offense caused.
However... "poor uneducated rural white boys"
    3 words, pot. Kettle. Black.
    Thanks for the comment though!

    1. But they are poor uneducated rural white boys. I don't understand your comment of pot kettle black. Americans all know that this is the case. And I'm not offended.

  10. I'm American and would never tolerate the behavior of the people you mentioned. They are most likely just poorly educated and brought up people that have never been outside of the US until that time. Please don't judge all Americans on their behavior! I promise there are many more of us that are not like that.
I do have to say though, that after living here in Japan for more than 25 years, I do find it hard to deal with the poor service and also the people who have never been anywhere and therefore have no clue about the outside world.

    1. That's a stupid comment. That's like me saying I loathe Mexicans because they vote for the guy with the brightest smile on the biggest poster.

  14. I can't stand it when people that I don't know make jokes about my accent. Oh and when people try and tell me that the way I spell English is incorrect too. I wonder how they would react if you told them their accent sounds like they have a stick up their arse? (Don't shoot the messenger, just relaying jokes I've overheard over the years.) It doesn't help either that you are thought of as American simply by being not of Asian appearance in this country.

Anyway, those guys are the equivalent of all the bogans pissing it up in Bali in their stubbies, thongs and bin-tang singlets while yelling and pissing off locals with public urination and showing all their bits with the skimpy clothing.

And there are genuine reasons why people hold negative stereotypes as America is great at impinging on various nations' sovereignty and hence getting under people's skin. For example:

  16. I hate being an American most of the time...because the rest of the world always gets to interact with fuckin' mouthy, childish, inconsiderate tourists or something... >__>;;

Makes me wish I could be from another country just I don't feel awkward when this posts on 'how Americans blow' posts. lol.

  17. Shoot, this happens to me all the time. I am American and living in the U.S. But see, I'm southern so my accent is just HILARIOUS to people from other parts of the country. Apparently it's also a tacit admission of low IQ. Accents are awesome. Dialects are awesome. People are sometimes not awesome.
