Welcome... TO FUTON WARS!

Anyone else seen phoenix nights??? No? Righto.

So there is a bastard big family argument going on at the moment, and I was relieved for about 2 seconds because I thought I wasn't actually involved, but noooo, of course I was!

Yesterday I went to MIL's house, (she is still in Thailand, so it's Obaachan, BIl and SIL) where Ryota and Ash were while I was getting some housey shite done, and as I walked in the door, all I heard was Ryo-chan's angry voice growling "Kaero!" (We're going!) and then shoving me back out the door. BIL and SIL were silent and Obaachan was chuntering something in the background so I had no idea what the fuck was going on.

2 cigarettes later Ryota finally told me what happened, but men are quite unreliable when it comes to relaying arguments, they either a) forget important details, b) twist the story so it's not their fault at all, or c) can't be arsed telling you the whole or even half of the story so grunt instead when questioned. I think Ryo-chan managed to combine all 3 of those when he was telling me what happened...

OK I'll back up a bit, I went to the park with SIL on Saturday (great pictures, will post soon!) and when we came back there was a massive futon set dumped in our genkan. My first reaction was, 'fuck me, not another cunting futon, where am I going to put this bastard?!' And then Obaachan came over and informed me that this was for Ashton to sleep on.
I gave in on the futon vs cot debate so Ash now sleeps on the floor NEXT TO his perfectly good, safe, expensive cot. Although I must admit, I do like just rolling over half asleep to pat him back to sleep or whip out some tit without standing up.
So Ash sleeps on a normal mattress with a baby sized futon on top, which he often rolls off but he also rolls off the adult sized mattress, so unless they start making futons as big as our whole entire room, he's gunna roll off the fucker.

I think Obaachan may have still been pissed that I was dissing the whole futon gig and this new futon was an attempt to stop the rolling off issue that I like to bitch about. I got what she said when she said "This is for Ash to sleep on" but I didn't really get the meaning, like we didn't really need the thing. When Ryota got home Saturday and tripped over the futon on the way in I said, "Oh yeh, Obaachan brought it over, I think it's for Ash but I have no idea..."
Ryota then went and asked Obaachan and she said "I fucking told your stupid gaijin wife already!" (well not really, but along those lines in more grandma-like speak).

Ash is pretty sick with a cold so on Saturday night we were busy and both couldn't be arsed taking the fated futon upstairs but when Obaachan came in on Sunday and saw it she gave a little miffed mumbling rant on the fact that we hadn't used the futon. I explained that we were just tired the night before and we'd give it a crack from tonight.
When Ryota went over there apparently (and this is where the details are based purely on Ryota's sketchy account of things!) they got into the conversation again and Ryota said that I couldn't understand Obaachan's Japanese! Which is true a lot of the time, hell I have trouble understanding old people in English, add in the Japanese factor, a sprinkling of Tottori-ben, lots of gutter Osaka-ben and sometimes I just guess a response. I did actually understand the futon conversation, I just didn't get why he needed it... Ya get me...?

Obaachan got pissed then and was all like 'well has she understood anything I've said in the last 2 years!?' and Ryota went into a 'if she speaks to you in English will you understand!?' and it went on from there....
I live in Japan, nobody should have to speak English to me, but I was touched that Ryo-chan would jump to my defence. He also told Obaachan she couldn't just dump things in our house, she should ask first, and that I definitely agree with.

Anyway, Ryota told me he wasn't going to go to the in-laws house ever again , which is a joke because as soon as Ash starts crying when he's looking after him he'll soooo be over there! He told me not to go either but I told him to shove it, it's his beef not mine. Kinda regretted that though when I went over last night and got into a tiff myself with Obaachan over Ashton taking a bath. He had quite a high fever and was all snotty, apparently in Japan a bath is a no-no when there's a fever involved, which I think is bollocks, the fever is taken wayyyy too seriously here in my opinion. Whenever I'd had too much to drink and called in a sickie to work, all I had to do was say I had a fever and any boss/ co-worker would be worried about me, but when I was in Australia I don't think we even had a thermometer in our house!
I knew Ash would feel better after a warm bath so I could get all the snot and muck off his face but Obaachan was all "Fine, ask the doctor when you go tomorrow, he'll tell you!!"
I basically told her straight then that in Australia, it's fine to take a bath, and he was having one.

Ryota still hasn't talked to her but I'm sure he will soon enough. OK, my snot monster just woke up so must go tend to the poor little bugger!

Foto friday, sleepless nights, walk-out fights, desperate D gossip, more fights and a partridge in a fucking pear tree.

This past few days have been a crazy whirlwind of stress and divorce threatening, I feel like an old woman!
I'm also running on very little sleep for the past 3 nights so please forgive the spelling and grammar mistakes that will be scattered through this post... I did title this post 'Men and babies. HAD IT!' But Ryota and I are now happily back to love love mode so I can't really say that now.

OK going to break it down into categories becasue I can't be arsed writing a fluid composition of topics...

Sleepless nights-
Ashton is going through a stage (please god let it just be a stage...) of waking up every 2 hours at night. This means I get no sleep at all basically as it takes me a long time to fall asleep anyway. Last night was better, I got about 4 hours I think. This also means Ryota gets interrupted sleep, and when you've got to get up at 5:30am that's no fun either.

Walk-out fights-
Due to lack of sleep on both our parts we've been extremly irritable. The other night this led to a fight where I threatened to leave but Ryota ended up leaving instead. I was soooo fucking angry!
This is how it went down; Ryota got home late which pisses me off to begin with (despite it not being his fault). Then I asked him to finish giving Ash his dinner so I could make our dinner. Ryota is pretty shit at feeding Ash, he gives up way too quickly and has no patience, sometimes I think he's doing it on purpose becasue it's just too tedious. Ash was really sleepy so he asked me what he should do. I possibly used a tone like, 'are you a fucking moron, put him to sleep' when I said "give him some juice and a dummy and rock him to sleep". I was busy with dinner by this point and Ash went to sleep pretty quickly. Ryota hadn't got the futon out beforehand and got panicky when he realised he couldn't put him down. He then said to me in an extremly harsh tone: "Can you fucking help me!?"
I was fucking fuming at that point, what the fuck does he think I do all day by myself??? *Deep breaths...*
After Ash was sleeping I closed the door and we started screaming at each other which led to the leaving...blah blah...drama drama.
I went after him when he left and we made up. All good. Except some of that argument wasn't resolved and carried on to the next night's fight....

Desperate D gossip-
OK I wrote about D, Ryota's friend who had a thing for Ryota a while back. Well, she called Ryota last night in tears and she had a massive fight with her boyfriend becasue his mother doesn't like her and he booked her a flight today, 3 weeks early!!!! What a fucking spinelesss cock smoker!! He's 30 fucking years old and he's listening to what his mummy has to say??? I feel bad for her, she seemed really upset.

More fights-
OK, kinda carry over from original fight but the night before last I'd literally had no sleep at all and when Ash woke up for the fourth time I started sobbing. Now this isn't unusual for me, I'm a total cry baby. 24 hour TV, cried like a big baby, movies, sad, angry, I cry. I was just so exhausted that I needed to cry. Ryota also woke up and asked me "Are you ok?" But not in a , 'aww poor thing' kind of way, in a 'fucking hell woman what are you crying about?' way. When I told him I was tired he said it was my fault for not sleeping in the day. Ash sleeps about 30 minutes during his daytime nap and that precious time is used for cleaning or doing some other shite that Ryota has no idea about. I got a bit emotionally over-tired hysterical then and we had another round but I had no fight just tears in me.
End result, Ryota realised he'd been a wanky husband and apologised profusely the next day and even got up with me when Ash woke up last night, which isn't necessary, just a bit of compassion is all I need.

Phew.

All good now, looking forward to this weekend, getting my hair done, going to a wedding and then visiting our friend in Nara.

This week's pics, pretty boring sorry!

Gotta get us a lottery ticket

We got lucky yesterday, well, actually, Ryota got sneaky. Either way, we came out of it 20,000 yen richer! In normal circumstances my moral compass might have found their bearings but Ryota's boss is a major tight arse who cut his salary when he went back to work so I was happy to take the ill-gotten money.
Ryota came home last night and gave me 20,000 yen and told me I should buy a new dress for the wedding we're going to on Saturday night, I was worried I was going to have to whore myself out for a new outfit what with new car buying activities and all so was very happy. But then the thought occurred to me that he might have developed a secret pachinko habit and I got scared... I was very relieved to hear that while he was cleaning out an office on a job site where he was instructed to throw everything away he came across 4 platinum rings in their box. Resourceful boy my lad is, he took it upon himself to swing past the second-hand store on his way home and got the cash for them! If his boss wasn't such a fucker then he would have just given the rings to him and they would have shared the money or whatever, but I went and got myself a new dress, necklace and a mini buggy for Ash for when we go back to Australia. Sweet!

The dinner the other night went pretty good, didn't get any 'I want to shag your husband senseless' vibes from his friend, she was with her boyfriend after all. I hope she doesn't read this blog.... Anyway, she's desperate to marry her boyfriend, actually she's desperate to marry any Japanese guy, not quite sure why... Not that I'm knocking the J-guys, I don't think I could go back to brutish Aussie guys now, but I used to just possibly pick the wrong guys I don't know.
This girl, D, loves J-guys though and is determined to marry one, good luck to her just don't steal my man biatch.

Oh and for non living in JapanLand people (all 2 of you) I'm sorry, it must be so annoying when I use Japanese words here... here's a little guide of the words I just can't seem to go back into English with:

Obaachan- Grandma
Ryo-chan- Ryota (anyone with 'chan' on the end of their name is just an affectionate term)
Genki- Happy/healthy/lively.... It's a very convenient word...
Ganbaru- Do my best/Try... Sounds crap in English but again, very useful in Japanese...

There are lots more, I'll try and stop doing it though!

Had some annoying in-law activity this week but will save that for tomorrow as I can see Ash about to crack his head open on the coffee table while Ryota watches TV...

The tooth hurts

You know all those millions of pamphlets they give you when you're pregnant, the ones saying how good it is for your baby to breastfeed him? How close you'll feel to him, how it's the best possible thing to do for your baby? The ones with the pictures of cute, calm babies, gazing into their beautiful, perfectly made-up mother's eyes while suckling at the breast? You know the ones right??

Not once in those bullshit pamphlets does it mention the searing pain of a new formed, fresh-out-of-the-gum tooth noshing into your nipple. Bloody load of shite pamphlet.
I'm seriously finding myself getting sweaty palms and nervous tummy every booby time. And the little bastard giggles every time he has a chomp and I yank my boob away crying and rocking and clutch it while the pain dies down.
Of course, the husband saying まぁ赤ちゃんしょうがないね、(which roughly translates as "Can't be helped love, now suck it up, shut your trap and get your tits out for the boy!" )doesn't help much, and the gaggle of in-laws wanting to see him and his 'cute' biting techniques isn't exactly making it any easier either. maybe I should pop him on one of their nipples and let him have a chew, see if they think it's cute then.

Obon is still dragging on, I was going crazy with a messy house this morning so sent Ryota off to the in-laws with bitey boy and told him not to come back until I had cleaned the whole house. Got interrupted twice with Ashton doing two humongous shits that Ryota was incapable of dealing with, apparently piss nappies are fine but mummy has to deal with the shitty ones, where the fuck did that rule come from?? He was so pathetic when he asked me I couldn't say no though, this is how it went:

Him: (timidly poking head in door) Corinne, Ashton did another huge poo... What should I do??
Me: (turning off the vacuum cleaner and turning Britney down) What do you mean 'what should I do'??? Deal with it!
Him: But it's really big, I think you should check, I don't know what to do...
Me: (Many expletives)

I asked him what he would do if I died or got sick but that was a stupid question, like a lot of Japanese men, he would palm him off to the in-laws. Silly me.

Ryota goes back to work tomorrow which will be nice to get the routine back, but then it has been nice to have him around more, and Ashton is so much happier with people other than me to stimulate his little brain.

OK, must go running or I never will!

Ballsed up week.

Also known as Obon in Japan-land.

This week has been a blur of BBQs, shopping centre trips, goooooooooddddd weather (finally!) and many other things which have at the same time been annoying and enjoyable. Man I have no friggin idea what day it is.

If I was thinking of having another baby I sure got a good preview this week, I swear to god Japanese men resemble toddlers in so many ways. When I used to work eikaiwa and the old biddies would complain that their husbands were going to retire and that they didn't want them in the house, I thought they were mad. But now I have a husband in my usually well kept house messing up schedules and leaving 50 fucking million coffee cups around the place, I get it. I so get it. God I want to find those women and bitch with them.

No major blow-outs though, quite 'rabu- rabu' actually. Few things such as coffee cups are pissing me off but I'm learning to breathe through the pissed off stage and remember that it's really not that big of a deal. And it's been great for Ryota to actually see how much work Ashton is, I don't think he'll be coming home from work as much asking me "So, what did you do today, sleep?" Because he knows that our little monster would never let us sleep in the day anymore.

Had some BBQ action at turtle's house the other day, that was fun. Then went to a restaurant with a view of the local fireworks last night and got a bit sloshed, although this summer holiday still has too much shitty nappies and not enough beer for my liking.

Once again forgot foto Friday so here are some snaps from the last few days to make up for it.

Would write more but you know, got fucking coffee cups to collect. Hope everyone in Japan is enjoying Obon, for those of you not in Japan, sucks to not have Obon eh.

Bloody stubborn men!!!!

Correction. One man. The man I live with. The man I am supposedly going to stay married to for the rest of my life. Ha!

It's not that bad, my usual drama queen instincts are taking over but man I was pissed this morning. This is what happened; I'm sick of making bento, I think it's stupid in this ridiculous heat and becoming very tedious for me so I thought a sandwich might be a nice change. Discussed this with cock smoker (AKA Ryota) and he agreed, he's a sandwich kinda guy, it was all good.

So last night when I was just falling into dreamland, Ash was snoring, cock smoker was snoring, I was on my way to snoring, the thought struck me that we have no cooler bags at our house and the sandwiches would go all sloppy if I didn't use one. So the good loving wifey that I am, I trotted over to the in-laws house in my jammies and got a cooler bag, put bottles of water in the freezer to use as cooler bag blocks and then went back to bed. Cock smoker was none the wiser mind you.

Fast-forward to this morning, I stumbled out of bed and bleary-eyed, made my little sandwiches. As I was about to pop them in the cooler bag cock smoker strolls over, throws his plates in the sink FOR ME TO WASH (as always) and said "I'm not taking that, it's too big."
I instantly started slamming things around at that point and when I asked why, he said that everyone would laugh at him for having a big cooler bag.

What are we, like fucking 12 years old now?? They would all more likely be jealous that he had cool fresh sandwiches rather than a box of melting Japanese crap! I put this point across but it was going nowhere. It ended with me leaving them and telling him to do what ever the fuck he wanted.

This is where Ryota and I differ the most I think, he is very worried about what other people think, where as I really don't give a fuck.
Another example, when Ash was born, Ryota claimed he wanted to do all the clothes shopping for him because I would put him in cheap clothes. Of course I will, he's inside the house and spitting/pissing/shitting/vomiting on his clothes at hourly intervals! It was a different story when it came to the crunch though and Ryota learned the hard way that cute clothes are the hardest to get get on and off, not to mention ridiculously overpriced.

Ryota has 5 days off starting tomorrow so we'll either have a great holiday or we'll kill each other, either way never boring!

EDIT: OK, feel bad now, just got a very sweet apology mail complete with cute bad English. My cock smoker's not so bad really.

Biffs revisited

I'm watching 'pretty woman', ahhh love that movie. Also love Richard Gere, although seeing him on Japanese TV recently shouting "hachi!!!" in a very gaijin accent hasn't done much for me.

Still incredibly busy this week with all my helpers out with the flu. BIL is on the mend, SIL and MIL still pretty bad and Baachan went to the docs today and has Type A flu, which isn't quite as bad?? I think that's what Ryota has too because he gets a bit of a fever in the day and is coughing a fair bit but apart from that he's fine.
I've also been cooking and shopping for the in-laws which according to them is totally unnecessary but I know they appreciate it and they were so good to me when I had strep throat, it's only fair I repay the favour, good little gaijin daughter-in-law I am! Excuse me while I polish my halo.

I'm hoping the recent bickering in our house is just due to sickness and stress, I can be quite difficult to live with, but I'm, ahem, sure it's totally not me... Well maybe just a bit. The fact that I haven't been running in a week is driving me nuts, feel very fat and bloated and...old. I seriously took a good look in the mirror this morning and I look freakin' old. Ryota didn't help by telling me I had black circles under my eyes last night. Of course I have fucking black circles, I never sleep through anymore, Ash's teeth wake me up at least 3 times a night recently. *sigh*

I swear I've gained new wrinkles since Ashton was born, hellllooooo twenty-fucking-five years old and I have cunting wrinkles!!!
*Ohhhh I'm at the shopping bit in Pretty woman, those snooty bitches!*
But yeh, seriously, the 8 grand we got in baby bonuses will all be blown on anti-ageing creams the way I'm going! I've decided I'm going to make an effort to be like a Japanese mummy next week, house totally organised, bento perfectly prepared and cooled on time and make-up and proper effort put in to outfit to go to the supermarket... yeh right, like that's going to happen! I don't know how they do it.

I've realised since having a baby I spend so much less time looking in the mirror, I'm quite looks/fashion conscious usually and when I was working I'd spend say 20 minutes looking in the mirror, cos I luurrrvvvveee myself sooooo much, and I didn't want to go to work looking like a total derro. But lately it's throw on any clothes that don't stink of baby vomit, make-up; hah! that's a laugh! hair; back, possibly with highlights of baby spit. I really need to start looking after myself a bit more, I love putting make-up on and getting all dolled up but lately, there has just been 0 motivation! Ganbaru.

Look at the rabbiting on already, OK, back to the tension waves of late. Tension waves is what we used to say at home in Aussie, if someone in our house was fighting we would use a little waving signal to each other so we knew to tread lightly. It's been more like a tension tsunami this week, let me see if i can remember...

Tension wave #1~ Hello work in-law battle where Ryota told me if I wasn't paid not to complain to him. Won that battle bitches!

Tension wave #2~ Ryota was still hungry after dinner one night, which pisses me off in itself, he likes to knit pick about dinner every fucking night and it drives me nuts!!! I thought it was my shitty cooking until Ryota's best friend (who he lived with for a year in Australia) and I had a bitch session about his pickiness and bad habits such as not cleaning the toilet, leaving beard hairs in the sink, throwing clothes on the floor etc. It made me feel so much better that it wasn't just me!
Anyway, Ryochan was hungry after dinner and I was still eating so he went and made snack pan for himself then bitched that he was sick and still had to 'cook.' He's so fucking impatient, he couldn't just wait the 10 minutes until I'd finished my dinner.

Tension wave #3~ Kakigori syrup spilled on the floor which apparently was all my fault! WTF??

Tension wave #4~ Ryota gets hot in the middle of the night when the air-con timer goes off. I hate having air-con on all night cos it makes my throat all dry and Ash kicks his blankies off and gets cold. Ryota wakes up hot and gets all huffy at me.

Tension wave #5~ Doesn't involve me thank fuck! BIL got the flu first so Ryota WENT OFF at him for being a stupid little punk who gave everyone the flu. I'd never heard him use such language and it was in Japanese and really fast but from what I could gather went something like-

Ryota: You stupid little cunt, you've made everyone fucking sick!
Junpei: It wasn't my fault!
Ryota: Yes it is, you sleep all fucking day and then go to skanky clubs with infected, dirty people all sharing cups and shit. Get a job you lazy little bastard!!!
Junpei: .........

I have to agree with Ryochan on this one, BIL is 22 and has never studied, never had a real job. His Dad just shelled out about a grand for him to go to school for caring for old/ disabled people but as I expected he gave up mid-way because it was too hard. I shouldn't really care but grandma is still washing his clothes and Ryota and I spent our Sunday last weekend trimming the trees around the house that Junpei is more than capable of doing, he really needs to start living like a normal person rather than a 4 year old.

I think there were more tension waves but I just can't remember them, Ryochan and I are all good, bickering stresses me out but I'm feeling good today despite the 20 or so times Ash woke up last night. Friday tomorrow, going to do an alone (well, with Ash) shopping mission by car tomorrow I think, going stir crazy in the house.

Rant, Oink, Rant, Fucking-Oink!

I must say, this post will not have nearly as much effect as it would have last night, was much more fired up then! Let's see if I can re-create that blood boiling anger...

So all my in-laws have swine flu.
No other way to say it. Is it normal to be embarrassed about having swine flu?? Like dirty pig blood has infected their veins?? haha, I'm not quite so worried but Obaachan warned us all to keep our voices down when talking about it, she didn't want the whole neighbourhood knowing we were infected, I mean god, the oldest son married a gaijin, hasn't enough shame been brought on the family?!

It all started Saturday night when BIL started moaning about having a fever. Of course everyone ignored him and told him to man up, but by Sunday morning he had a raging fever and was coughing all over the place so Ryota being a good big brother took him to the docs. When Ryota came home he went into panic mode (as he tends to do) and just started furiously washing his hands and shouting "SALT WATER!" at me. Of course this sent me into a panic and I yelled at him to tell me what was going on. After much hand and throat cleaning he finally spluttered out that his brother had tested positive for the new strain of flu (which was the swine flu right, they just renamed it??) They were put into isolation at the hospital and had to register as 'infected' with the prefecture. By that night his mum and sister both had the chills and fever so it was becoming clear that they too were infected. Ryota had a sore throat last night but no real fever so we're hoping he's clear. He's at work today, becasue god forbid someone would take a day off for being sick in this bloody country. Ooooo it's starting, almost said fucking country, leave those for later...

So with Ryochan sick it's just Grandma, Ash and I who are still genki, and thank god, because if I get it, Ashton is more than likely to get it seeing as though he's still pretty much surviving off of my body fluids. Eww. Magic breast milk may just get him through it though. And I'm glad Grandma doesn't have it because even though she's genki for 82, I'm sure of a strain of swine flu wouldn't do her any good.
So with all the sickness and worry about sickness, our households are a little, tense, shall we say. I'm feeling the pressure as the only one who can touch Ashton. That means no running, no escaping, even showering is a struggle and at the moment he has one little tooth poking through with it's next door neighbour to follow so makes for one cranky baby.

So leading up to the rantiness of the post, I have to say we're all on edge, which led to the blow up last night.
As I think I mentioned before I'm getting unemployment payments and have to go to the hello work office once a month for about 10 minutes. 10 minute, 150,000 yen, meh I can handle that! Someone usually drives me and holds Ash or I scooter it and Ash stays with MIL while I go in, but when I was due to go in this morning with everyone in bed I just decided to walk with Ash in the stroller. As soon as I said this there was a flurry of phone calls from the in-law's house saying I couldn't do this becasue they wouldn't pay me if Ash was with me.

OK, for a start, I told the unemployment office I had a baby when i signed up, they know. It's not a secret. Second, MIL has brought Ash in with her when we've gone to the office before, they've seen him and me together, secret's out. But Ryota said that it didn't matter, if they saw me alone with a baby they wouldn't pay me because I can't work with a baby... When I asked what single mothers do he said they won't pay them. He also said if I went in there with pink hair and full of piercings they also wouldn't pay me because I wouldn't be able to work like that... What kind of a fucked up age are we living in. I suspected the in-laws were over-reacting and I gave them this answer to all their protests:

If they refused to pay me because I had a baby with me I would either:
A) Go off my nut then just lie and say the baby was my friend's bub that I was watching.
B) Go off my nut for at least an hour, storm out and then make the money by whoring myself out with English or any other whoring means necessary.
And I vowed that if they refused to pay me, we would definitely be leaving Japan for Australia within the month, and never coming back. Ever.

I honestly think this was a gross over-reaction on the part of my in-laws but the fact that it was even an issue for them shows just how bad this country is when it comes to discrimination. I'm spoiled, Australia has a very good welfare system, well, good if you don't want to work, but I do think they give too many hand-outs in Australia. Just can't please people like me!

But seriously, homeless people in Australia scare the shit out of me because they are usually junkies who will roll you for their next hit. Of course the homeless are friendly here, they just genuinely have nowhere to go and no money because there is no welfare system to help them. If Ryota died or left me I would be royally fucked and pretty much would have to go home.

Anyway, that was last night and I toddled off for my 40 minute walk in the 400 degree heat and they gave me my money and even played with Ashton while I filled out some stuff, as expected, it didn't matter that I had a bub with me. Ryota kept calling to make sure I was OK on my own and when I told him it was all good he apologised and admitted he forgets I can actually do things by myself. They seriously forget I lived here for almost 4 years by myself before I met Ryota.

Yup definitely not half as angry as last night, imagine the above post but insert a few 'cunts' many 'bastards' and lots of 'fuckings' and that's how it would have been. There were some more biffs but I'll save that for another post, Ashton is screaming the place down.

Boooooorrrriiiinnnnngggggggggg!

First of all, a big congratulations to the 'Niigata nimpu,' (thanks gaijin wife's hubby!) Sarah on finally giving birth to her little girl Sakura, we were all eagerly waiting!

I cannot wait to start working again, this get up, wash, feed, play, cook, sleep routine is getting old quickly and it will be nice when I start working, Ryota won't have to work on Saturdays poor thing.

Things have been much too quiet for my liking lately, there's nothing really to look forward to, although I am embarking on a girl's day field trip this weekend in the car. I'm picking up the girls and we're off to Nishinomiya gardens for some shopping and lunch (and cold stone ice cream, singing woohoo!) I'm a bit nervous about driving on a Saturday, especially in Ryota's whale of a car. Ganbaru!

My little Ash is 6 months old today, half a year! Go team! It's gone quickly in a way but in other ways it feels like a lifetime ago that I was in Aussie giving birth, and even longer when I found out I was preggers. I should count my blessings really, life is boring at the moment but at least there are no shocks like that one was!

I'd known Ryota less than 2 months when I found out I was pregnant, crazy! I remember being in Starbucks with him one day and thinking it had been a while since I'd had a visit from auntie Flow, thinking out loud (in English seeing as though I thought the Starbucks customers might not appreciate that kind of information with their cherry chocolate latte) Ryota gave me a big hug and said he didn't care if I was pregnant, he'd love to have a baby. I stored that away in the memory bank for the time when I told him I actually was preggers!

When I took the test I thought I was reading the kanji wrong and asked him to read it for me and he was like "Errm, no, your kanji reading is spot on..." Much freaking out later we just decided to deal and make the best of it, and we have!

I'm currently addicted to toasted sandwiches, sounds healthy doesn't it, toasted? But I'm talking put in a frying pan with oil and butter until the cheese is all melty and the bread is all crispy, yummy! I dread to think of the calorie content. Must rodeo boy extra hard today. Rodeo boy is still keeping my interest surprisingly, (probably because I'm so bored with everything else!) but I've lost weight on my upper legs not my tummy, who cares, I've lost somewhere, that's all that matters!

The in-laws haven't been pissing me off too much recently either, there was a slight incident this morning, I went to the post office loaded up with packages for my sister's birthday and two friends who wanted happy town and hi-chus to send off. As I was leaving this was the convo I had with MIL:

MIL: Where are you going with those?!
Me: The post office.
MIL: Do you know how to send them?
Me: Yes, I'll be fine, thank you. BAI BAI!

If I had any balls this is how the convo would have gone:

MIL: Where are you going with those?
Me: To the moon you twit, where do you think I'm going with 3 post boxes with big posting things stuck to them??
MIL: Do you know how to send them? (You dense gaijin)
Me: How fucking long do you think I've lived in this country? I'm not a moron, and I'm more than capable of sending a box to Australia, stop fucking asking me if I can do things like I'm 5 fucking years old! If I need your help I'm not mute either, I'll ask. BAI BAI!

She's just being nice but it really does make me feel like an idiot when she does it. Whatever, if that's the biggest problem I have I'm doing good right.

Hoping this week goes fast, looking forward to the ice cream and 3 clucky 30-something-year-old women to take Ashton while I shop my little heart out!

Sunday catch up lunch

I feel bad with Ryota only having Sunday off work, I always seem to drag him to some event I have or some crazy shopping expedition.

Yesterday was a lunch for some of my old students and friends, two of them are getting married so it was a 'well done, congrats, here's my 2000 yen to chuck in for the prezzie' kind of thing. The last time I saw them I just had a belly, so they were all chuffed to meet little Ash and one of the girls had a baby a month before me so I wanted to see who was cuter (Ash won by a mile hehe) just kidding. But not really... You be the judge, I'll put photos.

He did win in the growing stakes though, he is about 4 kilos heavier and much bigger than little Kouta kun and would definitely win in a fight, he proved that when he almost yanked the kid's ears off when he could get close enough. I had my first real motherly pride yesterday though, Kouta was screaming and carrying on (like Ash usually does) while Ash looked on in bemused wonder and smiled at everyone with his goofy, gummy grin. He didn't cry once and had no trouble being held by everyone. *sniff* Love it when my baby isn't being the little shit, it almost makes me slip back into my high and mighty role of muttering annoyed customer mumbling 'Can't she shut that kid up?'

I've always wanted my kids to be able to be passed around and not just want their mummy and daddy and I'm glad Ryota is on the same page, yesterday we sat in a Japanese style private room so stroller couldn't get it, Ryota was like "Soo.... who wants to hold the cute jumbo gaijin baby?!" translation- Don't just say he's cute, put that theory into action people, let's pass the little bastard around the table so we have time to eat! Ash was passed around the whole table and loved it, definitely going to dump him with anyone who is willing from now on.

It was good fun, my witty Japanese conversation skills flourished and it became apparent how much my ex-students have forgotten any of the English I had taught them. Ryota had basically never met anyone there so he was also impressed with my usually shy personality morphing into an entertainer that could have been straight out of a Gion tea house. I think I'm so sick of talking to the vacuum cleaner and washing machine that real people was a big treat.

Enough rabbiting, here are some photos from the day...

First meeting, just before the ear pulling began...

Awwwww!!!!

Pass the baby! (If you unwrap him you get a stinky surprise!)

One of Kouta-kun's many awesomely not-my-baby, loud hissy fits.

Now this is just fucking freaky....

P.S. I'm so fucked off with all this rain, what is a housewife with husband's work clothes to do!?

Blame it on Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch China

Ryota and I often have heated debates and occasionally all-out brawls when it comes to racial issues, particularly when it comes to China and Korea, man I should be given honourary citizenship for the way I defend them! Our most recent tiff stemmed from the washing... How the hell does that happen?

Let me explain...

In Australia, the air is clean, as in puffy white clouds, blue skies, no acid-rain clean. If your washing gets wet, no biggie, just wait till the sun comes out again and it will be as good as new. Of course this is a big no-no in Japan, I guess especially in the city. I didn't believe it until I left my beautiful red dress out too long one day and I brought it in pink streaked, the shite in the air really is bad for clothes! But whatever, I'm not going to kill myself getting the washing in, it's just not in my nature.

So yesterday I cleaned a bastard big rug we used to have in the living room, now it's summer I don't want it there and actually have no space/idea where to put it now. So I left it on the verandah. It started raining and I remembered bastard rug too late but thought, 'Meh, it's just a rug and a dull coloured one at that.' Ryota went mental and asked me why Australians feel the need to leave washing on the line all the time which led to me screeching at him "HOWTHEFUCKWOULDYOUKNOWWHATIDOWITHMYWASHINGYOUNEVERWASH!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps a slight over reaction on my part but it's true, it was pure chance that he saw the damn rug, usually the washing area is my domain.

So he sat me down and explained to me that leaving washing out was bad for the washing like I was 5 years old (which I hate!).

He said he knows that Australian air is very clean and beautiful but we aren't so lucky in Japan, all because of China.

Ummmm, back up there cowboy. Huh!?

I gave him one of my 'you better have good evidence for this or I'm going to tear strips off you' looks and he quickly jumped in to a China yellow sand rant. I know about yellow sand, but it's a natural phenomenon, I really don't think China can be totally blamed for it. Ryota then said that it was because of all the pollution in China and directed me to Wikipedia. Dude of course there's pollution, there's what, like 258 gazilllion people living there!?

I know he just does it to get a reaction from me, and I never disappoint in that department!

But to be fair to him, he does have some general sweeping generalisation for EVERY country, here's the world according to Ryota...

Americans- Get a pretty good review except that they need personal space in a weird way... I have no idea what that means either.

Australians- Have no fashion sense but on the upside are always on time. Yessssssssss!

Canadians- Also have no fashion sense as they are always wearing bright coloured jumpers. Ummm I think I'd be living in a fleece if I was in -2 million degree cold too...

Any other Asian- Can just forget it. China-Rude. Korea-Pushy and smells like Kimchi. Thai- Dirty but friendly.

Brits- Are sneaky. That's all I could get out of him on that... Scots are excluded from the snaeaky category and apparently are quiet, kind and tend to mumble however this is purely based on our one scottish friend who is quiet, kind and does indeed tend to mumble....

French women- Have STDs...

African Americans- Are dangerous and don't wash their hair enough.

Any country in Africa- Has no water and/or clothes.

Russians- Will kill you, and the women are all snobby bitches.

And finally... Japanese- Women are like "stupid little attention starved dogs" (Again, quoting here!) and have no idea how the rest of the world works. haha, well I guess he's living up to his own stereotype!!!

Ryota isn't racist in a bad way and honestly I know he is just winding me up most of the time but he honestly didn't know that Japan was a part of Asia until JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL! He thought Asia was all the other scummy countries and Japan was the almighty reigning country!

Fights and father's day

Wow, rainy season is definitely here! I'm planning on going back to bed to listen to the rain soon. We've had an interesting few days full of exciting arguments, prezzies, losing things and make-overs.

So Friday night Ryota and I had a huge fight. I'm talkin door slammin', name callin' good old fashioned fighting. I believe this is only the second time we've had a fight like it. Very soul cleansing, even if stressful at the time. It was partially my fault at the beginning, but after that I'm putting it all on drama queen boy. hehe.
It started out with the haircut. Ryota has been whinging that he needs a haircut for a while now but with his work schedule it's been impossible for him to go get one. So the other night his mum volunteered to cut his hair and he agreed after lots of umming and ahhing. Of course I needed some entertainment on a dull Thursday night so I encouraged it. Any of you that know Ryota, will understand that he is very fashion conscious, (much more than me) and generally takes pride in his appearance. So he started freaking out as soon as his mum hacked into his hair as I knew he would. So after she had butchered the back and given me a turn at butchering, we all decided for the sake of family peace we should just quit and Ryota should go to the salon the next day.
Friday after work Ryota called the salon and asked if he could go right then. (about 5pm) They said they had no openings until 7:30pm and me going into housewife mode did a batsu sign with my arms and just said "dinner, bath, dame!" So Ryota said no and hung up the phone. As soon as he had hung up I changed my mind thinking we could just have dinner either later or earlier and I would get Ash bathed while Ryota was at the salon but Ryota was already in a huff going on about how he has no time rah rah rah. I'd explain his side of the story but it's my blog and I'll discriminate if I wanna.
I felt bad and begged him to just call back and go get a freaking haircut but he was on a stubborn rant by that time. I wasn't pissed off until after about 10 minutes of back and forth when I finally said "I've apologised and said you should go, now it's up to you." After that he was all mocking me with comments like "Oh my god dinner is so important, we can't miss a dinner like we have every night!" That's when I lost it and almost threw a plate at his head while screaming in a shrill voice "You fucking make dinner every night and try and stick to a cunting schedule and see how you like it, cock!!!!" haha sorry for the foul language.
This went on for quite a while, I don't like fighting, it makes me feel sick so after a nasty comment about how bread would have been better than rice while I was serving dinner I proceeded to cry and not touch my dinner. hehe what a sook I am! Now I think about it, I should start a fight every meal time, I'll definitely lose weight!
We didn't keep it up for too long though, I went for a run slamming the door behind me and cooled off, we apologised, love love, done.

Oh I almost forgot, another reason we had a fight that day was Ryota had lost his phone. I say lost, he actually left it on the top of his car and drove off, the dope. So he was already in a bad mood becasue of that. We I decided it would be a good idea if Ryota took my phone and I got an iphone, you know, becasue Ryota's job is outside and a new phone would be a waste because it would get all dirty or airborne again... Only one problem with this, my phone is bright pink... That's what stickers are for right!? Ryota finally agreed to this scheme of mine and then we discovered someone had handed the phone to the police. Damn honest people ruining my new phone scam!!!! So that's all good, I'm sure Ryota will be just as clumsy in the future.

Yesterday was a nice relaxing father's day. I got Ryota's prezzies and cards and arranged them in Ash's bed so when he woke up I made Ryota go get him and he was surprised by the gifts. He loved the shorts I got him and was also pretty impressed with the mug. I was happy, he seemed genuinely chuffed, although a little guilty and promised me mother's day would be special next year. After prezzies and brekky we went window shopping at the Kobe outlet shopping place. It was way too hot, crowded and I don't really like many of the shops there, but it was a nice drive and good to get out of the house on such a muggy day.

Now for some photos!

Dinner at a Nepalese restaurant, yummy!!!

Stealth tooth fairy shot!!!

Ashton wriggled his way round sideways in his bed all by himself!

Hope everyone had a good weekend! Now let's get through this miserable weather!

Am I the only one left who likes birthdays?

Yesterday was SIL's birthday, she turned 24 and me being a birthday fanatic, wanted to do something special, actually I just wanted to do SOMETHING.
Like most families in Japan, Ryota's family do not make a big deal of birthdays, they sometimes forget them. Talking to Ryota's uncle about it, he was all like "I don't even know when my own birthday is, let alone anyone elses!" I get this is a cultural thing, but I just can't let birthdays go by, it goes against my upbringing.

So Ryota's family have had to 'give in' and celebrate birthdays in some way, it's like it's a chore for them!
I'm all about presents, and as much as I love getting them, I like even more to think about the person and to give them something they really want or need.

My SIL is always helping me with Ash, doing my nails for free, and generally a nice person who I really appreciate so yesterday we went shopping and had ice cream, we got her a present and then had sushi and cake. It was nice. I made Ryota sign the birthday card and he actually said, "I've never written my sister a birthday card before, what do I write??" Uh... happy birthday is a start... Jesus!

I feel sorry for SIL sometimes, she's really nice (although quite fiesty when she wants to be) but literally never leaves the house, unless it's to go to work about once a week or take the dog for a walk. She's kind of the black sheep of the family, eveyone else is very social, but she's a total home body. I'm hoping when I have time for a social life again I can drag her with me!

And speaking of presents, I ordered Ryota's father's day present, and bought his anniversary gift yesterday. Father's day is a really nice mug, (he's using a crappy, chipped one at the moment) with "Ashton's daddy" written on it. And anniversary is a diesel watch, it was expensive but he's mad on diesel stuff and his watch is being held together with one of my hair elastics!

On the Ashton boy front, HE NOW WEIGHS 9.5kgs! That is very not normal for a 4 month old. He's also discovered he can hold his feet with his hands and just can't stop making the V symbol whenever he's laying down. I'll leave you with this pic, sorry for the graphic nature!

Wife of the year, right here!

After Sunday's blow-up I felt really bad, especially after talking to other gaijin mama's who got the exact same treatment, it wasn't just Ryota being a dick. Phew.

So I took the time yesterday to do what a good Japanese wifey would do, and said it with food. I made Ryota's favourite dinner and then a ごめんなさい cake (Sorry cake). Isn't it purrrdy! (And so sickly and corny that you wanna vomit all over it!)

Ryota and I hardly ever fight so in one way it upsets me when we do, but on the other hand it does make me remember how much I appreciate having him. As far as men go, he's one of the good guys and supported me 100% when I got pregnant, where I think a lot of guys would have run for the hills!

In other news I'm now officially scamming receiving unemployment benefits!!
WooHoo that's got to be on a goal list of mine somewhere, to be on the dole in Japan. But hey, I worked for 4 years paying that tax that I never knew what was for! I went to the Hello work office today and it was packed! But the advantage of not being Japanese came in handy again, they got all panicky at the sight of a foreigner and stamped my little paper straight away, 10 minutes for about 200,000 yen.

And lucky it didn't take too long, I was not in a good mood today after Ashton boy kept me up last night, no wonder he was so tired, here's a picture of him this morning.

"Flat out like a lizrd drinking eh cobber!"

Mother's Day in Japan officially blows

So this year was my first mother's day, and I know that those such holidays aren't celebrated as much in Japan as they are in other countries, but my hubby is pretty savvy to the western culture stuff, as I think I am to Japanese culture, so usually we meet in the middle. Not yesterday.

I think I had every reason to be pissed, and pissed I was. I'd been dropping hints all week about mother's day, I bought a present and made a card for his mother and grandmother and sent my mum a gift well in advance. So by these things I thought it would be pretty clear that mother's day was important to me in some way. Obviously not.

Sunday started like any other day except I wasn't all chirpy as usual, then I went on a cleaning frenzy as I tend to do when miffed. Then I cuddled up with Ash on our futon for a 'sleep' which was actually a cry. I was thinking how good it is to have a two-storey house now, when we lived in the apartment I wasn't able to have a good private sob.
Anyway, Ryota knew something was up and came to talk to me. I am very annoying in arguments, I do the whole "I'm fine, just having a bad day/headache/PMS" etc. Even though it's clear that I'm angry or upset for a reason... Ryota often tells me how Japanese I am in that way haha.

After I finally started to tell him why I was angry the flood gates really opened, I started ranting about how we skipped the romance part of our relationship and that he got off easy with no dates and presents and stuff. After I said that I felt like a selfish bitch but I can't deny that's the way I feel sometimes, and he doesn't get that I don't want expensive gifts, I want gifts from the heart, or at least the head. Making something, doing something he knows I like and all that stuff that men are just not programmed to do.
I also pulled out the 'we never even had a proper wedding' card, which I know upsets him, but I figure if I don't tell him, the bottling up could be dangerous later on.

I felt muuuccchhhh better after letting it all go, but then he went overboard and started up the "I'm a terrible husband" guilt trip bullshit, took me shopping to Nishinomiya gardens, (which is awesome by the way) and tried to buy me expensive stuff which pissed me off soooo much cos it showed that he just didn't get it. *sigh*
I may have overreacted a little but I think it was more of a build-up of a few things, the fact that I always feel a bit homesick on holidays and being a housewife can send you insane.
I think relationships take time and effort on both sides, so I have to try harder too.
We made up though and like always after an argument, feel refreshed in some way. we agreed that I wouldn't do anything for fahter's day this year, (but I know I will) and then we'll start fresh from next year when he will spoil me rotten.
